Northern Beaches — bulky goods collection
Northern Beaches Council runs a pre-booked Bulky Goods Collection for large household items. A booking is required before anything goes on the nature strip. Put materials out only the night before the collection date.

How many bookings?
- Mainland households paying the domestic waste management charge: up to 2 collections in 12 months (subject to availability). The 12 months starts from your first booking; if you do not use the second booking in time, the anniversary resets on the next booking.
- Bookings are assigned to the property, not the person — new tenants may need to wait if two bookings were already used.
- Service is not available in the last week of December; summer waits can be longer.
- Unit blocks / townhouses: either communal (strata/body corporate books) or individual unit booking — do a property search on the council site. Individual bookings: max about 3 cubic metres.
- Western Foreshore & Scotland Island: two scheduled collections per year (same accepted/not-accepted lists).
Presentation
- Have a booking number; put accepted items on the nature strip the night before only.
- Maximum about 3 m³ (e.g. 3 m × 1 m × 1 m) for the standard mainland presentation guidance.
- Larger-than-toaster items may sit in unwanted bags/crates left open so crews can see contents (containers not returned).
- Remove batteries from items. Many embedded-battery items can go to Kimbriki free — check council A–Z.
Can put out (examples)
- Furniture; mattresses and bed bases
- Whitegoods (doors removed) and other metals — separate pile
- Timber pieces up to ~12 fence palings
- Electric lawn mowers, e-scooters, e-bikes — battery removed
- One built-in household item (cabinet or sink or toilet or door)
- Rolled/tied carpets ≤ 1.8 m (max 3 rolls)
- Empty hot water systems; empty beanbags (beads disposed separately)
- Up to 2 unbranded pallets; up to 3 metal roofing sheets (max 1 m × 1.5 m)
Cannot put out (examples)
- Items smaller than a toaster; items over 1.8 m long
- Heavy items two people cannot move safely (max ~40 kg except whitegoods)
- Sheet glass, mirrors, windows, glass tables
- Hazardous waste: smoke detectors, extinguishers, gas bottles, chemicals, paint, batteries
- Embedded batteries that cannot be removed
- Building material / asbestos / insulation / brick / rubble
- TVs, computers and peripherals
- Household garbage; recyclables including vegetation and empty cardboard
- Car parts, tyres, oils; petrol-powered mowers/tools; oil heaters; polystyrene; pianos
Asbestos & hazardous. Building material including asbestos is not collected.
Gas bottles, paint, chemicals and batteries must not go on the pile — use CRC / Chemical CleanOut / Kimbriki pathways.
Unaccepted items left behind must be removed from the kerb immediately.
Leaving items on the street without a valid booking can attract significant illegal-dumping fines.
