Sydney off-leash dog parks & beaches

Off-leash rules are set by each council (and some state park trusts). Dogs must be on-leash in public places unless you are inside a designated off-leash area. Always read on-site signs — hours, sports exclusions and playground buffers change.

Beaches. Most Sydney ocean beaches prohibit dogs. See Northern Beaches (Mackerel Beach and Mona Vale south trial times) and Randwick (dogs prohibited on all beaches and rock pools). Other coastal councils (e.g. Waverley) are not yet covered — do not assume beach off-leash without checking that council’s current rules and signs.
Keep dogs out of playgrounds and generally 10 m from play and food areas where posted. Pick up waste — councils issue on-the-spot fines (City of Sydney cites up to $275 for not picking up; $330 if a dog is in a playground — confirm current amounts on the City site).
