Randwick Household Clean-ups: How to Book Your Free Pick-up
Quick answer
Randwick City Council gives residents 6 free household clean-up collections a year: 1 scheduled collection (date set by your waste zone) and 5 booked collections you pick a date for. Book with the council's online Book a clean-up form, or call 1300 722 542 during business hours. Not sure you're in Randwick? Which council am I in? Walking the dog afterwards? See Randwick dog parks.
Scheduled vs booked
- Scheduled (1 a year): based on your residential zone. Find your zone on the council's waste zone map; the date is also in your waste collection calendar.
- Booked (5 a year): choose a date that suits you, subject to availability.
- Need more? Special paid pick-ups can be arranged through the Call Centre (1300 722 542) if you need more than 6 collections in a year or have a large volume.
How to put it out
- Put items on the kerb the day before your collection day — not earlier.
- Place items on public land (the kerb), not on private property.
- Size limit: 2 cubic metres per collection — book a double collection if you have more (council's Book a clean-up page, updated 22 Jan 2026). An older council page still says 1 cubic metre, so check the limit when you book.
- Separate into metal and non-metal stacks; stack neatly and safely; put small items in bags or boxes.
- Remove doors from fridges and all other appliances.
- Only empty paint tins are collected.
Council says waste left on the street outside your collection times, or on public land at any time, is treated as illegal dumping and can attract a heavy fine.
What goes out and what doesn't
| Accepted | Not accepted |
|---|---|
| Furniture White goods (see fridges & whitegoods) Small household appliances (toasters, heaters, fans, irons, vacuums) Mattresses — keep separate, collected by a different truck for recycling (see mattress guide) Empty paint tins E-waste Toys Plastics BBQs Gym equipment Green garden waste |
Building, renovation or demolition material (bricks, tiles, sand, timber, etc.) Hazardous waste including asbestos Tyres Glass or mirrors Car and boat parts, motor oils Liquids (paint, chemicals, oils etc), including in drums or other containers Dangerous material (flammables, gas bottles or empty drums) Bean bags General rubbish Large tree logs Business or commercial waste |
Glass, mirrors, tyres and asbestos are all explicitly not collected — don't put them out. For tyres see how to get rid of old tyres in Sydney. If an item isn't on either list, check with the Call Centre (1300 722 542) before putting it out.
Where the rest goes
Paint, gas bottles, motor oil, batteries and other problem waste should go to a drop-off point rather than the kerb. Randwick runs the Randwick Recycling Centre — check the council site for what it currently accepts and opening hours — and our Community Recycling Centre / e-waste & paint guide lists free NSW drop-off options.
Bonus: Christmas trees
Council collects natural Christmas trees free once a year with your green waste: put them near your bins 24 hours before the scheduled date on your waste calendar.
