Willoughby — clean-up & booking lead times
Willoughby City Council offers kerbside bulky waste collections for eligible residential properties (not commercial waste). Most material from these collections goes to landfill — donate or sell good items first.
Official kerbside clean-ups Book a collection
What you get per calendar year
- Three free scheduled kerbside bulky waste collections per eligible property.
- One free pre-booked kerbside collection per eligible property.
- Optional extra pre-paid booked collection if you have used the free booked one (household goods or vegetation — not mixed). Check current fees on Council’s fees page.
Lead times (important)
- Pre-booked services are limited each week and must be booked at least one week in advance.
- Council recommends booking about one month ahead to secure your preferred date.
- In busy periods, availability may be several weeks away.
- Cancel at least 7 days before the booked clean-up. Cancelling later means you are not eligible for another free booking until the next calendar year.
How to present
- Kerbside only — crews do not enter properties or collect from driveways. Items must be liftable by two people.
- Max 2 m³; items no longer than 2 m.
- Label piles with the scheduled or pre-booked Council label (or a handwritten equivalent with date, address and booking reference).
- Scheduled: present on the Sunday evening of your collection week; collection runs Monday–Friday that week.
- Booked: place items the night before the booked collection date (follow your confirmation for exact presentation timing).
Household goods — collected
- Household furniture (except mattresses and ensemble bases)
- Small appliances; soft furnishings
- Carpet/lino cut to 1 m lengths and bundled (max 0.5 m³)
- Other non-recyclable household items
- Whitegoods and metal (remove fridge doors)
Not collected (examples)
- Mattresses & ensemble bases — use the separate Soft Landing mattress booking
- General waste; cardboard; vegetation (unless you booked the vegetation stream)
- TVs and computers; batteries (including embedded)
- Car parts/batteries/tyres; building materials; liquids/paint/oil
- Asbestos; gas bottles; hazardous materials; mirrors/sheet glass; polystyrene
Asbestos & dumping. Asbestos is not collected. Adding items to someone else’s clean-up pile is illegal dumping — Council cites fines up to $4,000 for dumping. Book your own collection or use sustainable disposal options.
